Install Zinnia
Download Zinnia from rosie.run/zinnia/downloads. The 7-Zip sidecar binary is bundled with the packaged builds.
System Requirements
- macOS: macOS 26.0 or later. Universal builds support Intel and Apple silicon.
- Windows: Windows 10 version 2004 or later, on x64 or ARM64.
- Linux: Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13+, or Fedora 43+. Packages are available in AppImage, DEB, RPM, and Flatpak formats.
Basic vs Power Workspace
- Basic Mode is designed for quick drag-and-drop compression, extraction, and open operations. It features a translucent window with native blur on macOS (vibrancy) and Windows (Mica or Acrylic).
- Power Mode exposes advanced 7-Zip features for advanced workflows:
- Formats and Options: Detailed settings for 7z, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, and other formats.
- Split Archives: Multi-volume archive creation with presets and custom volume sizes.
- Custom Presets: Save, apply, and delete compression presets.
- Archive Update: Add or refresh files in an existing archive.
- Convert Archive: Convert archive formats directly from the browse view.
- Selective Extract: Select specific files using a collapsible tri-state tree.
- CPU Benchmark: Run thread-count tests in Settings to tune compression performance.
OS Integration
Zinnia registers common archive file associations and integrates with native file managers.
- Windows 11: Packages use a signed sparse identity MSIX to register a modern context menu. This adds a top-level Extract with Zinnia action on archives, and a Zinnia submenu containing Extract and Compress actions. Windows 10 uses classic Explorer verbs.
- macOS: Right-click context menus include Extract with Zinnia and Compress with Zinnia Finder Services. These can be managed in Keyboard Shortcuts -> Services, or in the app’s OS Integration settings. Standard file manager launches route archive opening to the quick extract window.
- Linux: File manager context menus include desktop Open, Extract, and Compress actions. Sideloaded Flatpak packages grant sandboxed directory access for
home,/run/media, and/mnt.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Zinnia supports several keyboard shortcuts for quick control:
